My Oday 25 has the main halyard lead to the cockpit though the use of a mastbase lead block and a cheek block both mounted on the deck. The problem I am having is that 95% of the time I still have to leave the cockpit to raise the main because the halyard will wrap around the steaming light or one of the cheek block for the lazy jacks which is mounted on the side of the mast. I want to mount a halyard restrainer near the midpoint between where the steaming light and the lazy jack cheek block is located on the mast. I have been looking at halyard restrainers and even just a simple bulls-eye farlead. The halyard restainers at sailnet or westmarine specify a 3" mast application or are silent as to mast size. I am having a hard time figuring out what to use. I am leaning toward just using an 1.5" bulls-eye padeye. Anybody have any thought or experience with this? My biggest concern is chafing the halyard. Any help would be appreciated.
