My Schaeffer SnapFurl needed a halyard restrainer to keep the end cap from rubbing on the halyard. I mounted it yesterday an inch or so below the sheave. It's like an upside-down U. It's stainless steel and I imagine that the mast is aluminum (Z-Spar 190 I think). I used SS screws. Thinking about it now, should I have used rivets instead? I drilled pilot holes progressively larger until I could get the screws in. If the snswer is rivets, does it matter if they are SS or aluminum? ...RickM...

I called US Spars

Julian at US Spars said that SS screws are fine. They use rivets "for speed, mainly". They use SS rivets for the extra strength. ...RickM...
