Our 22' O'DAY has what appear to be the original halyards which have become quite ratty and we'd like to replace. They both are 5/16" 3 strand twisted manila rope connected to 1/8" cable. We'd like to replace both the rope and the cable with just 5/16" braided rope, such as the Sta-Set or similar quality, thereby eliminating the cable completely. Is this a good idea, or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Halyards

Hi B.J. I just added new 5/16" braided low stretch halyards to my 22. The wire halyards are not really needed on small boats these days as the braided line is now far more capable for use keeping sails up. At about $.70 cents a foot, the 5/16" stuff is a deal. Just remember to double check that bowline knot up top. Happy sailing. Stu Timm "Karakahl" 1979 O'Day 22 CB

love my new halyards

Just bought a set of main and jib all line halyards. Sta-set. They work wonderfully and, no more clanking of wire against the mast while on the mooring
