The shaft going through the center of the two plastic pulleys that redirect the halyards to the starboard blocks...that shaft has broken flush at the inner forward part of the of the shaft leaving the two pulleys dangling and wobbling from the rear part of the shaft that is still firmly positioned. It appears that the shaft was a one piece shaft that is pressed or frictioned fit into the body of the boat. If this is so, then how can it be replaced, or if not replaced, what other options do I have? I need so help here!!!

Block Options

Depending on how bad the fiberglass has broken there are a couple of options. Mine had the same problem when I acquired the boat. I used a 1/2" dia. stainless shaft to replace the lost original, added 2 stainless washshers between the sheeves and drilled a hole between them for a cotter pin. The shaft was bedded in 3M 5200. Some day I'll get around to cutting through the headliner to re-glass and redrill to the original hole size but for now (3 years so far) it is working OK. I also keep a couple of blocks I can bolt to the mast base on board just in case. These are the same as those used on the 240's and can be had from US Spars. P/N 00261 for 27.30 ea. as of April this year.

Problem Solved

Amazing how providence can solve problems ! While studying what appeared to be "broken shaft" I monkeyed around removing the two pulleys and the seperater to get a better look at the problem and wouldn't you know I found the shaft wasn't broken at all..it had crept aft into the hole and I was able to pull it forward and reposition it good as new after cleaning it up and adding some 5200. Who says I don't have a guardian Angel !~!
