Halyard abuse?

For those of us with in mast furling and roller furling head sails.

Let's face it we all love the convenience of the roller furling jibs/genoas we are using and many have the added convenience of in mast furling. My question is regarding the constant tension on the halyards and sheaves. After you finish the day does anyone release a little of the tension on the halyards to take some of the constant pressure off of the gear?

Pro and con opinions on whether this is a good idea or not.

I do release my jib halyard tension when I am away (Harken, 1985 model) .. I don't like leaving the torlon balls loaded for fear of fretting them or "flat spotting" them.. (not good for anyone to have compressed balls for any amount of time !) The only concern I have is that there is a chance of fatigue failing the wire halyard at any tight turn over a sheave ... Inspect regularly!
