N the lazarrette, just aft of the rudder post and steering quadrant, there is a metal flang that is glassed into the deck of the hull which appears to serve as a rudder stop. In my boat, the fiberglass is pulled up suggesting some strain on the metal bracket. Does this structure provide some support for the rudder

Just bought Mistral hull 71,There is a metal frame surrounding the lazerette. I dont think it has much to do with the rudder as most of the rudder is below. Do you have hydraulic steering in you boat? If so, have you noticed a hesitancy when you turn the wheel? I believe the Mistrals built in the 1970s had Vetus gear. Vetus no longer supports the system. Also, what is the condition of the aft section of the cockpit coaming? Most have leaks and rot. I am in the process of rebuilding. Ugh
