I found out from someone through the internet that my old sailboat "Veni Vidi" a 1980 Watkins 27 is for sale on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1981-Watkins-27-Sloop-Sailboat-NY_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63730QQihZ023QQitemZ360011198675QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW It appears that the guy who bought it from me 7 years ago didn't know anything about taking care of a boat, neglected it and just decided to give it away to a charity. *cry She looks like she is in Brooklyn NY now. If you know anyone who is looking for a decent sailboat that just needs a little TLC for very little money -- this would be it. My girlfriend and I were looking at these pictures and we almost want to cry. I loved this boat & thought she was a great boat for what she was. I knew every inch of this boat. I was looking through these pictures and almost wanted to cry. She took really good care of us in the 8 years I owned her. That boat has brought us through some heavy weather at times and a lot of miles. In her time she was as seaworthy as most 27 foot sailboats ....we sailed her all the way to Block Island and back. I started out with her down in the Raritan Bay NJ I want this to go to a GOOD owner. I am almost tempted to buy her myself. At this price she is a STEAL !! All she probably needs is a good cleaning, caulking and rebedding of windows and some hardware and overall inspection of some things and maybe some simple replacement of things that probably needed it years ago, but it looks like this guy neglected the boat. They say the engine doesn't work but I doubt the guy even changed the fuel filter !! She has the venerable Yanmar 2QM15 in her and I bet with some clean fuel and a strong battery she would start right up again. I would be willing to help and advise anyone about any of the systems or anything about this boat to get her back sailing again Here is a little more on the construction and build http://www.watkinsowners.com/construction.htm This is how the boat SHOULD look on the inside -- http://www.ecoastwatch.com/watkins27/images/W_InteriorB.jpg Here is a link to Watkins Owners Website http://www.angelfire.com/fl/watkinssailboats/ I have nothing to do with this sailboat, I don't own her and am not selling her, but figured I'd notify those on here to see if anyone wanted a decent boat for not much money. I have followed similar sagas on Sailboatowners.com where someone picked up lesser boats and tried to resurrect them. I am hoping this is one of those times. :) I'll try and post a picture of her in better times sailing on her way to Block Island leaving Plum Island Tom

Know the feeling Tom...

I sold my 25 Catalina over a year ago to a younger couple. They keep it in the same marina were I keep my new boat just a few slips away. I think they have sailed it a few times but mostly it just sits there turning green. It is hard to look at as I used to keep it polished and painted and washed weekly. I just hope they find a new owner who will appreciate the old girl. Frank

Has she sunk?

With all the mildew below, I'd really want to know if she's ever sunk. If not, buy her, give her a bath and put her back on E-Bay.

I just happened to see

my good old C&C for sale on ebay about a year ago. I had wondered what happened to it. The fellow I sold it to really let the boat go and it was a sad thing to see. He eventually donated it to a charity that put up for sale on ebay. It sold for a pittance, even in its disheveled condition. I wrote the buyer that I had been a previous owner and knew a lot about the boat's history as I had owned and sailed it for nearly 10 yrs. Some months later, I got an email from yet another newer owner of the boat, who turned out to be the nephew of the ebay buyer. He was in the process of totally restoring the boat and sent me some pictures of the progress. I was delighted to see this old boat being returned to near new condition -- and it was nice to see a boat I loved being loved by its current owner....

That is so sad Tom S...

But, best to just let it go, man. The boat served you well and you cared for it let a child. But it was not meant to be. I fear that if I sell my boat, it too will end up looking like that. The guy I bought it from had maintained it really well. I am doing the same. Very sad indeed.

They talked a good story but couldn't walk it.

5 years ago we sold our 90 IP 38 to a couple that talked of having sailed charters for years. They couldn't wait to use this new boat that was so much better that any they had experenced. We found out a year later from the Coast Guard and friends at the mooring field where they took over the boat that she had been used only 1 weekend in the following year. Left unattended, she sank at the end of the second hurricane that fall. Sad.....DAMN RIGHT, but I had cashed his check and moved on. The truly sad part is the empty spot in my heart where her memory rests. I let her down and that will never go away. Ray

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I still hear from the owners of my old boat.

I was sad to see Bad Obsession, my Hunter 22, go when I sold it but I was ready to move on and I had already bought my Catalina 30. The good thing is that the new owners of the boat have continued to love her, as I did, and they are continuing to work on her. It is nice to hear from them and I am sure that they are glad to hear from me when they have a question about it. When I bought the boat it had been donated to a community college foundation. The pervious owner, who I never met, had loved the boat and taken good care of her. It was obvious from all the neat work that he had done to her. I was told that he was an older man and he cruised the boat all around Pamlico Bay. He had gotten too old to maintain and sail the boat so he had to give it up. It had sat for a while when I bought it and it needed a little help, but not too much. Everything that I took care of was cosmetic, other than adding an autohelm, GPS, Microwave, a new stove, and a few other things. The trailer was getting a little rough but I didn't have the knowledge to repair it. The new owner has kept the boat looking good, improved the trailer (he is a welder) and they love the boat. It is pretty cool.
