In following this website and the comments by hunter owners, it's apparent that many new boat owners have good luck with their dealers while some are not so fortunate. The role the dealer plays in the new boat equation is critical to the integrity of the finished product. I speak with some experience on the topic. I took possession of a new H460 on Oct.8th which was purchased from and commissioned by H&S in San Diego. This was my 4th Hunter, the last three (37.5, 40.5 and 460) were purchased new from H&S.For those buyers who haven't purchased a new boat, it's a real learning experience. When the boat is delivered off the truck from the factory, it's about 80% complete. The rest of the boat is disassembled in boxes, cartons, packaging and etc. and shipped inside or on top of the boat. It's the responsibility of the dealer to put the rest of the boat together, including stepping the mast, rigging the boat, completion of the external and internal wiring, location and installing of all electronics and options, making sure all systems are up an running and bottom painting.Over the last 12 years, the three Hunters I have previously owned have been great vessels with problem free sailing and nominal depreciation upon resale. Hunter makes an excellent product and factoring in the dollar value compared to other brands, they can't be beat. With that said, the new buyer has to be mindfull that it's absolutely essential to a well functioning boat to have it commissioned by highly qualified people. The way the boat is finally put together will effect the quality of the end product. I would urge anyone shopping for a new boat (any brand), not only to shop for the best price but also shop for the dealer with the best reputation and in-house commissioning staff. The H460 is my third boat commissioned by H&S . Each time they did an outstanding job with truly skilled professionals. On Oct. 8th, I took an off-shore delivery of the H460 and sailed directly to Mexico where it will stay. After being on board for ten days, the boat and systems performed flawlessly. The H460 is an awesome boat and hopefully my last boat purchase. My many thanks to Doug Ament and Bo Cummingham and the rest of the crew at H&S for their hard work and professionalism in making things happen and going the distance!
