What are these black foam boxes that foil my attempts to remove the hard plastic headliners to access my leaky deck fittings? I see no screws -are they glued in place?

In my discussion, with Experts from Hunter, my guess is Yes, on glued.

They used probably, fast drying glue, as they did assembly line production.

Whereabouts on the boat are these?

I haven’t been through the whole lid yet. But, so far I found them starboard in the aft cabin (directly above the space behind the headboard) and the pic I posted is looking back at the forward bulkhead, port side.

I should’ve noted that they are both foam with a rigid core. The aft cabin version actually spans between the mini bulkhead by the bed and the bulkheadish wall forward of the bed (shared with the head). So, that one isn’t attached to the deck and presents like a shelf. A wire loom or two runs along the top of it.
