H37C Staysail Boom

Has anyone tried using their staysail without the boom? It's been recommended to me to remove the boom to free-up that space for storing a dingy. I suspect it would cause a problem sailing close on the wind, but I don't know. Do you? Ron?KA5HZV

Move it higher?

On one of those YachtWorld boats there is an H37C with a furler on the mid-stay. That owner mounted a self-tacking boom similar to an IP, an 'L' shape with the pivot point mounted just behind the furler. The bend was high and angled up toward the mast. Looks like you could get the dink under it. Not sure about length and how to handle the traveler though.Or could you just mount ours higher?

Staysail boom

We have raised ours up several inches by attaching a clamp to the babystay, and making up a new cable...we have run with our inflatable dink under it, and have not noticed any adverse sailing charaiteristics...The only drawback is the reduced forward visability...we are eventually going to put a radar arch, with integral davits on it....But we will still use the foredeck storage for crossings...Just be careful how high you go with the boom, too high and it "kisses" the mast as it swings by....Good luck with it...73 Ed KC4JKW

staysail boom?

Our H37-C has not had a staysail boom since we got it. We use a loose-footed staysail and she sails just fine, and there's one less shin-busting deck obstruction. RS

Have you looked at the Camberspar?

Ron:Have you looked into a Camber spar. These are used on the Freedom Yachts and Hunter also used them for a couple of years. It is actually a piece of S.S. tube that is inserted into a pocket in the sail. There is nothing on the deck except a block just forward of the mast.
