The drum was getting quite difficult to turn so I removed it for inspection. I could not find the manufactures name on the drum but I would think it is the original. The drum appears to have no bearings and simply spins on the forward stay. Either I am missing parts or this is a very poor design. Hopefully a fellow 37C owner could advise me of the manufacturer or have some experience with the design. Rick Harvey.

i think the system i have seen on all the stock H37c is a streamstay one and you can find parts and pieces at www.rigrite.com now if i can only find my own H37c........ chet p

Roller furler

Mine (1980) is equipped with a CDI, which is shot. I'm replacing it in the next few weeks.

Sure enough its a CDI

John you were correct it is a CDI. Looking at a parts list the unit is just a bad design. But it could easily be modfied with teflon bearings and sleeves. It would be conciderably less expensive than a new Furling.

What year did they switch?

My 1979 has a Hyde Staystream and I lubed the bearings once. It seems very solid and I do have the book. And Rig-rite does stock parts. Wonder when Hunter switched to CDI?

CDI on 1984 37C

I've never had any problems with my furling and have never serviced it. I know that is not very smart and intend to inspect/service this summer. I sure don't want a surprise failure.

CDI's From the 80's are Junk

No bearing, plastic drum with grease on it. Furlex is the replacement of choise but too pricey (no discounts). Second choice is Profurl and it's affordable. I'll get one unless I get a new boat first. Barry s/v "PER DIEM too"

Barry, I agree wholeheartedly

Barry, I'm with you. The extrusions on my CDI are shot, and it's just not worth trying to repair. For what it's worth, I'm getting a Profurl (LC32, 1/2" pin), which, in case you're interested, JSI has on sale until 5/15 for $1300. That's the best price I could find. (Don't anyone tell me about a better deal; I already ordered it. :) ) Cheers,
