You might recall that I have some concerns about my aluminum fuel tank. Today I pulled the aft cabin apart to see if it is possible to see any corner of the tank near the bottom. As you can see in the pictures the tank goes right up against the fiberglass. There is one space, about 2" by 6", where the hose from the manual bilge pump comes up on top of the tank. It is about 12" aft of the inside forward corner. There I could see a clean and dry bottom.

I don't think I can see the bottom without cutting out the forward bulkhead of the quarterberth. Maybe you have to do that to get the tank out.

I also wonder if my gauge is accurate. With the gauge reading 1/2 full I measure exactly 10" of fuel straight down the hole. Any chance someone uses a yardstick to check their tank?

My mind isn't as good as it used to be, but I guess that 10" is near correct. I'm out cruising now, but f it is important to you, I can pull the gauge when I get home.

Thanks for the offer Bill. It is not a high priority. I just wonder if it is possible that the gauge is anywhere near accurate after 32 years? But in Lake Erie I motor so little that looking in the tank twice a year really is not a problem. Just wish I knew where that film of oil on the bilge water is coming from.
