I have a 1980 H37C with a Yanmar 3QM30 that I want to put a 3 blade prop on. Has anyone done this? What are the prop dimensions and pitch? How does it perform compared to the stock 2-blade?Thanks,Jerrys/v Makai
I replaced the original 2-blade on my H37C with a 2-blade folding prop from "Flex-O-Fold"(http://usboat.com/jensen/). I wasn't willing to give up sailing performance and my first choice(MaxProp) is too expensive. I only have the 20HP, 2QM20, but motor in some pretty heavy weather without a problem. Can't say it backs up much better, still pretty bad.
Primarily because I understand that 3-blade prop will give a little more speed and less vibration than a 2 blade. I get some vibration that is irritating at almost any rpm that shaft alignments, prop balancing and shaft savers have not been able to eliminate. The motor alone does not vibrate above idle speed. It is possible it is prop wash on the rudder.Jerrys/v Makai
I went to a 3 blade Campbell Sailor prop last year and speed and power increased in forward with no change in drag. Reverse is about the same, backs left a great deal.
Hey Jerry,Our 1985 H37C has a 4JHE-44HP with a 17" Max prop set at 16" pitch. Will cruise at 6.2 knots at 2800 rpm. Backing was greatly improve but still walks. If I can answer any questions email.Richards/v Dorado
I replaced a 17 inch 2 blade max-prop with an 18 inch 3 blade max-prop on my 37.5 this summer. What an improvement. Almost a full knot of speed gain at 3000 rpm, no vibration, better speed into weather. I set it at 20 degrees if I recall correctly.
