I also use the newer stuff. But I do not worry about the size... I just us the thinest thickness size I believe its about 1/16 th maybe less then an 1/8 th inch can't remember. I just start wrapping and feeding the packing into the stuffing box till I can just get the threads of the nut to catch..... Then I tighten hand tight.... Run the prop a little then tighten a little more to just stop any leaks while it's at rest. Check it every once in while to make sure shaft is not getting hot.... Sometimes it drips a little when running sometimes not. If it starts to drip to much I just give the nut a little extra turn to stop the leak at the dock ..... After a few years or so.... When I start to run out of thread I just back off the nut and add a little more.sailmaster39 said:I want to repack the H 356 shaft stuffing box with the newer GTU Gore packing.Anybody know what size to use.
