Lookig for suggestions, ideas regarding making the salon cushion backs removable. They are a pain to deal with when accessing any of the storage areas below the seats or in back of the cushions.I know on the H36 they use 2 inch round velcro on the backs however I`m not sure that would work on the 356 cushions. Can somebody post some ideas or pics in the Boat Owner modification tab regarding this issue.
thanks

I don;t understand how your cushens are held on with manybe snaps ?????.

cushion back

The tops of the cushion backs are screwed into the back supports on the boat, port, aft and against galley. You cannot remove the cushion backs, only lift them up to access any of the storage areas.

I don't mind them. I usually lift the back cushion up, remove the lower cushion, lift the hinged lid below and then lower the back cushion to keep the locker lid open.
The back cushion in front of the galley has a strap sewn on it with a loop. When it is lifted up the strap can be run over the double sinks and hook on the cabinet latch, this keep the cushion up and out of the road when using the water tap to prime the AC pump.
We find the bottom cushions do move on the velcro and we have to keep pushing them back into place every once in a while.
good luck,
Bob

Never

My cushions never move for any reason at all even when heeling while
racing like this weekend, many things do fall over from the shelf or anything laying on the cushions.
I suggest you setup the cushions just like the H-36 and they do stay inplace and can removed to access the storage compartments.

I converted ours to velcro using the 2" industrial velcro (sticky back) glued and stapled to the wood strips in the cushion and the panels behind the cushions. you can get monel or stainless 1/4" staples and they work well on the thin wood

cushion backs

It sounds pretty easy after reading your fix....Just remove the screws and attach the velcro to the wood strips on the cushion back and attach the other piece of velcro to the panel behind the cushion with glue or staples. Will that heavy duty velcro hold those cushion backs in place without having them fall.
thanks
Richard

The Velcro holds them well. This probably goes without saying but be sure to strip away the fabric where you mount the Velcro strips on the wood.

We ultimately had new vinyl cushions made by Gioia Sails South, one of Hunter's vendors, and anchored them all, backs and seats with Velcro circular disks.
