Good morning all. Athough it is 13 degrees out and the parking lot is covered in ice and snow I just started going over my list of things I want to do prior to launch. One of the things I was considering was somehow ventilating the engine box. I believe there some some discussion a while back about Hunter having a kit where you can ventilate the engine box thus eliminating, or at least reducing, heat and engine odor, from both the main and rear cabin. Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated. Did someone just say 11 more days till Spring? After yesterdays storm I sure hope so. Bob Keller sv Kathryn, H356, Stamford, Ct.

How about exhaust blower

I can't beleive you don't have a blower in the engine compartment that came from the factory. I have one that vents out the stern in my 2001 290,I really thought all the new hunters came with one. nick

Sorry Nick

Nope, my 2002 does not have one. I understand Hunter added it in 2003 or 2004 when they added the fire surpression system.

Surprised

I have 2001-290 with the blower mounted over the engine and venting out the stern, doesn't look like a hard job to install same setup. I am sure other 356 owners can help you out with the install setup, mine looks very easy to do,I know some one with 310 that added one plus a extra blower exhaust for the rear berth. nick

You void fire supression system

if you add an exhaust blower that is not interlocked. An exhaust blower will pull co2 out and air in if it does not automatically shut off in an intrinsically safe manner. The only advantage of a blower is to remove odors. To remove heat it must run for a couple hours after engine is turned off. I have no blower now and don't miss it. Clean engine room, no diesel leaks, no odor.

Bob

Do you have surpression, sounds like you don't so I think it doesn't matter if you add blower. I don't have a surpression system but do have a blower with off and on switch at main panel, wish the switch was at the cockpit. nick

Are you sure it's a blower?

Hunter issued a kit to allow air to be ducted TO the intake breather from the transom area, so that if the fire suppression system discharged, the engine would not consume it. We chose to have this kit installed on our 356 and it works like a champ. We still get as much diesel odor as before, but the engine gets cooler air from the outside and not from the hot engine box(i.e. from the interior of the boat). I think it made the engine a bit quieter too. I am interested though in the blower systems you have. Do they come with a dc circuit breaker or on/off switch?

No plastic hose

A fire suppresion system reqires no fresh air to enter. A melted hose can feed air. This may void fire insurance or give them more reason for avoidence. Consider carefully what you are doing if you have or had a fire suppression system.

Exhaust blower

The blower I have in engine comparment is similar to PAR marine blower in west marine catalog, what it does is remove any odor, vapors, heat,it completely exhausts these things into a 3" hose to a out side vent at the stern. My 2001 -290 did not come with a supression system.
