H340 Zinc Collar on the propeller shaft

Hi, I have a 1998 H340 and I would like to know if anybody that owns an H340 has a zinc collar on the propeller shaft. I would really appreciate some input. Thank you Ken

Put two on before launching

I have a 2001 340 used in salt water. I put on 2 zincs a couple of inches apart. My prop shaft is 1 inch diameter - the zincs were purchased at West Marine - they are a Martyr anode by CMP Global - part number CMX03 - cost about $16 each.

Fresh water ?

Hi Carl, Do you know if they are required in fresh water as well as salt water? Ken

Fresh water - no zinc

Ken - I'm no expert on this but I found the following on a WEB site - hope it helps: "Zinc will not work in fresh water it is purely for salt. Magnesium is the simple answer to your problem with fresh water, although magnesium needs to be removed when going into salt water for long periods."
