H340 Sump Box Install

I think the whale system is how I'm going. I have been through the attwood drill quite a few times. Even when they do work they jam up with hair and stuff... They don't pump all of the water so they have a little stink to them.

Lastly the charter boats in the BVI all seem to use a version of the whale pump so they must last!

Started planning my install today. The trick in the 340 is going to be getting a low spot so that grey water doesn't sit in the lines or cause an airlock to the gulper. To this end, near as I can tell the only place to properly mount the accumulator portion is the main bilge itself.

For me at least list will mean rerouting and extending and few of the lines to get there. Also a new thruhull in the back of the hanging closet (near the current bilge and AC outputs).

I've attached a pic showing the "before" layout with the floorboards all lifted. Excuse the dirt...spring cleaning hasn't happened yet (and may well be in the form of a pressure washer!). The icebox and AC I'll T together and then connect the output of that and the shower at the accumulator part.

Stay tuned for more as things progress. In terms of electrics I think I'll use a spare port on my panel and put an on / off / momentary-on switch if I can find one. If not then I guess just an on / momentary-on similar to the bilge pump.

Pump (and Seahawk bottom paint) arrived this week so I'll be starting to plan the install shortly. Dmac, have you progressed on your pump install?

I have not.... fell behind on exterior stuff that needs to be done before we splash in 2 weeks...whale system and new Tank monitoring system - Dennis Ferriola set up-will have to wait a few more weekends... I do have the interior torn apart and ready to go on these projects...

scott- spent some time on this project today....I decided to add a new thru hull ....remove back of closet wall aft of nav station...you will then see bilge pump thru hull...I put new hole about a foot forward of this at same height...going to install pump at bottom of closet wall on navi side...will make wiring simple...will drill new hole from bilge - where sensor will have ice box, shower and wet closet t'd into it-adjacent to bilge outlet hose hole... should make for easy job from here...decided that using sink thru hull- under water- made me uncomfortable.. for one- I prefer to use gravity to drain sinks in event I have battery issues in future and two, dont want always on pump - which is how I will wire- to be plumbed below water...anyway, thru hull now in place - took 10 minutes- awaiting plumbing and electric to be finished

Ok so your plan is almost exactly the same as mine!

I'm going to put the collector point in the forward deeper bilge area and run everything to that. Then hopefully the lines all drain well. Also going to shift the AC intake filter forward into the same and free up the shallow bilge for storage (which translates to a padded wine rack ).

I just got bilge hose (wound up buying 1" ID sanitation hose as 1" PVC reinforced like the existing lines just about impossible to get here without buying a 50' roll. It's a little stiffer but should be ok.

Will send pics as things progress. We slash in 2 weeks so hoping to finish prior.
