Does anyone know the proper length and size of the line that secures the rudder on an H240? Ours has to be replaced. Thanks.

What happened??

Jeff, If it will help, I will measure mine this weekend and get back to you. Or call The Anchorage 303-823-6601 in Lyons, Col - they should be able to tell you. What happened to your line?? it can't be that old. There must be a story here. Thanks, Charlie

incorrect path

You're right, our boat is less than 6 months old. As you probably know, the line is secured to a pin at the top of the rudder post. It then runs down, around a block and back up. At this point is is supposed to go around the pin again and out to the tie off point. Well, ours didn't go around the pin and was rubbing against the side of the rudder post which is rather sharp. Last week I noticed it was sawed halfway through at that point. Don't go to any trouble to measure it, I can do that when we get back out to the lake. I just thought someone might know.

Too much is okay

The critical measurement would be not enough line. As you probably know, there's a short (about 2 foot) line that connects to the lower part of the rudder- by that I mean the line which "pulls" the rudder to the down position. This attached to a block through which runs the longer line. One end of the longer line runs through the top of the rudder for "pulling it up. The other end passes down through the pulley portion of the block and then back up to tie to the rudder post. If I had to guess, I think that line is about 5 or 6 feet. Certainly not any shorter. It's okay to have a longer line than necessary and then, if you desire, cut off the excess. I'd go with maybe 7-8 feet and then cut off the part you don't need.

36" of 5/16" line

Just looked it up. It's 36 inches and is made of 5/16 inch line. If you'll send me an e-mail to mcooper@dallas.net, I have a picture of the assembly I'll e-mail back.

Got it!

Thanks, Mark, for those measurements. I have the picture you mentioned. I think it's still on the picture forum, in fact. What a great resource this web site is! Thanks again.

I'd better check mine!

jeff, Thanks for the info. My H240 is about the same vintage Hull # 296. I'd better check mine to see if it is strung the same way. Thanks,
