What is the best way to turn the ice chest into a refrigerator? Brands? tips? cost? anything helps.

Also I think the cooler is leaking. I get this brownish river that seems to start by the doorway to the aft cabin and the oven. What should I take apart to fix this?

I have fitted a Dometic/Waeco unit, the Coldmachine 85 compressor and the VD-09 evaporator to the coolbox on my 336.

I have used the system all summer and it works very well, in fact I can freeze things if it is turned up too high.

One way is to Google boat refrigeration systems and see what's available on the marketplace. There are air cooled and water cooled units. There are 12V, 120/12V auto switchover units and engine driven units.

Here's a good resource: http://www.kollmann-marine.com

i second this. Bought one and install it myself. I get frozen beer when left in freezer too long. :)

Our H340 also has the factory installed Adler Barbour, which seems to work well.

As to the leak, there is a drain in the bottom of the chest that flows, via a flexible tube, to the bilge. Once we had the caulking around the drain fitting crack and cause a leak out from beneath the chest cabinet near the stove. You might check that fitting.

These days, we still sometimes put a block of ice in the chest to augment the chiller. In so doing, we usually sit the block in a tupperware container and just pull the container to dump, rather than letting it drain to the bilge. This allows us to put a cork in the drain, which seams to help keep more cold air in the chest.
