just a lazy cruiser guy,
I like that thought, but unsure if the context means I only sail during fair weather and I roll up the sail before the wind gets above 10 knots.

Furler performance is challenged when the wind picks up. It is then you see the differences of the various manufactures and product lines.

I like the Harken MkIV for it's robust design. Light weight easy to keep clean bearings. Efficient aerodynamic extrusion design. I cruise no racing with my boat, and the Harken was my choice when I refit my furler.

@Dave Groshong here at SBO says they have good pricing for the Harken. Worth a look.

You have many choices, but consider if you only want roller furling vs. reefing, first.

Once you've decided that, then your choices are basically robust systems that have been proven to work, or wimpy others.

If reefing, then choices include ProFurl with its built-in "wrapstop" above the top swivel, or other manufacturers which require a halyard restrainer.

Harken as John said, or ProFurl are excellent.

CDI and Furlex may be less robust.

When you ask a question like this, most folks will recommend what they have, which is logical but not necessarily helpful. I have a ProFurl, been doing great for almost 20 years. John has a Harken. I've seen his, he's seen mine. :):):)

OTOH, if you have done your own research, a more realistic question would be: "For those of you with XYZ roller reefing, have you found any deficiencies?" Specificity helps here. Otherwise, your question is like asking your mother: "What girl should I marry?" :)

Happy New Year.

My 84 H27 still has the original Hood furler that was built by Harken and still works perfectly. I have installed a Profurl on a different boat and cruised with it for several years with no problems. You cant go wrong with either a Harken or Profurl, but I have no experience with the others.
