Hey guys, new to the forums here. I just purchased a 1983 H34 this week and have some questions on replacing all of the running rigging and blocks. All the sheaves are dust at this point. I was considering drilling out all of the Halyard blocks and just replacing the sheaves, but I may just replace if cost isn't too great. The mainsheet rigging I do want to replace with a more modern 2 way 4:1-8:1 system. I am overwhelmed with the amount of manufactures, price ranges, and types. I really just need pointed in the right direction as to the right equipment for my needs. This boat is just for casual sailing maybe 10 times a year so high end equipment is not required. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced the mainsheet with the 4:1-8:1 system as you describe. It no longer runs through all the sheaves and to the cabin top winch. I did not like that because it is too slow. Now I just pull. Works great. I also replaced all of the winches with Lewmars (used ones, Ebay). I have Lewmar 40's on the cabin top. A pair of Lewmar 46 self-tailers for the jib sheets which I added about a foot forward of the existing winches and then I replaced the existing jib sheet winches with Lewmar 43's. So much better.

Welcome to the gang, Adrock; lots of H-34 owners here and lots of good info..
Look at Garhauer for good bang for buck on sheaves and blocks.. I have Schafer's on the mainsheet but their stuff is a little pricy. That was changed by my previous (and original) owner back in '86 when he raced briefly. I use a lot of Lewmar blocks and am happy with them. Again, Welcome aboard .. Check out the boat info and downloads sections for the 34 and 31's for some stuff to consider..

Luckily all of my winches are really nice 2 speed self tailing so I'm good there. I really just need to figure out what brand Blocks I should buy and what size. I really don't want to spend $150 or more for a block as I need six in total not including the mainsheet fiddle blocks. I have scoured Mauri Pro and am just overwhelmed at this point.

I replaced the original track and car with Harken setup; do a search as I posted pics on how to do this on this site; if you have questions let me know. It works like an absolute dream.
I replaced all blocks for the main sheet with Gerhauer items. Are absolute quality at an unbelievable price. Just make sure you get ones whose direction you can lock (has a small setscrew built in), as I find that the aft ones will turn and the line twists on itself.
The deck organizers were replaced with Schaeffer items which were a perfect fit although now I wished I had gone with three sheave rather than two.
I replaced the rope clutches with Spinlock XTS triple clutches. Work smoothly although one cam has failed already with one outing, and I am talking to Spinlock about a replacement.

We're working on replacement hardware that will fit the existing track. Hope to have that nailed down by late summer or fall.

Looks like I'm going to have to drill out the fiddle block at the track mount. I will just use a pin for the new block I'm guessing. I will post picture's. Ohh and I ended up going with Garhaurer and they were great. Lines came from Cajun ropes and they were really nice as well but took a bit of effort o get ahold of them
