Plastic fuel tank leaks from the bottom. Has anyone attempted to patch? Would replacing the tank be a better idea? Greg at Huntermarine has suggest providing tank dimensions to EZELL and have them custom make a replacement. Has anyone had similar problem? Dennis

Repair or replace

You can repair a gas tank, fairly easily. Marine tek, available at West, Boat U.S., etc., will easily seal a hole or crack. The bigger question is are you repairing one whole, but ten more will form in the next several weeks. So if you have a small puncture in an otherwise good tank, fix it. If a seam in the tank is pulling apart, replace it. I have repaired holes in gas tanks, metal and plastic and had no problems for years and years from the repair. Here's the bad news: You probably won't be able to tell how bad the leak is until after you remove the tank!

Replace

If you have to go through the trouble to remove the tank, you may as well replace it. It will give you peace of mind.

Replace Tank!

Hi, I have a Hunter28.5, had the same problem. I removed my old tank, not alot of fun, spilled some fuel into the boat, not good. Anyway, i took the tank to a welding shop, they used the old as a template, delivered the new one and found they had to do a little rework, not a problem for them, brought it back and it fits like a glove. cost: $300.00. well worth it. good luck, Rick
