Hi everyone, It was raining all day long here in Lake Champlain and since I just stood my mast, I was looking over the water coming down my compression post. I think I definitely need to put some silicon at the base of the mast… My other concern is that I fill my water tank to flush the anti-freeze form winterizing, but I fill it up completely. I went shopping for an hour and when I got back, there was 1 inch of water in the V-berth compartment floor, and a big leak running all the way long to the engine bay. I unscrew the wood floor to look underneath, thinking that I could find some answers, but I found nothing, only the fibreglass shape of the berth with no holes or anything that could give me some clue. I look if the water coming down the mast could find a trail a way long to the V-berth, but didn’t see any trace of leakage. Nothing top of the compression mast, and at the bottom, it should go directly in the bilges running all the way. And by the shape of the floor, it’s kind of impossible because of the groove separating the V-berth from the rest of the boat. So, I’m wondering about the water tank return overflow? Does anyone have an idea of what could cause this?

Hi Antoine, the link below describes the steps...

I took to stop the water leak coming down the compression post on our boat. I suspect yours is leaking for the same reason. Terry

Tank gauge overflow

We had a similar "water under the floor" on our 340. I think I traced it back to overfilling the freshwater tank. I had previously taken the tank sending unit (known as NW-POS [no working piece of..])and not re-caulked it well. Another time with a very full tank and a lot of wave action we had water there. Water collects there and gets soaked up by the floor. I've thought about leaving the wood piece our and replacing with dri-vent. NW-POS has now been re-caulked even though the darn thing has never worked.

Water Tank overflow

Had a very similar problem, the solution, I chased down the fill line and found a nice droop which, by itself was no problem but when I overfilled the tank, i.e. walk away while filling, the anchor drain was plugged and overflow followed the fill line to the droop and filled the compartment under the V-berth. Good luck Ron

Tank overflow

As mntioned earlier I think you have your answer re overflowing tank. I had exactly the same symptoms to a tee. My hull fw tank overflow is working however if I walked away from my fill the water comes out of the top of the tank at the tank gauge sender location. Not caulked at all, simply a rubber gasket. Several times water leaks as you describe it. My easy answer was to fix the water gauge and watch so as not to overfill. Perhaps I should seal the sender port as well. Good idea!
