I've a 1980 33'. What were the original holding tank (or did it have one) and water tank sizes - I've still got the orginal water tank under v-berth, but can't find any info on size, as that is missing in the info on this site. Want to replace holding tank, if possible.

Tankage

Our 1980 33 has a 40 gallon fresh water under the V berth and 22 gallons of diesel. We replaced the holding tank with a 6 gallon poly hard tank in the sail locker.

on mine.....

On my 1981 H33 I have the (I'm guessing) standard 40 gal. fresh water tank under the V-berth, a 24 ga. diesel tank under the cock-pit sole. This tank MIGHT not be standard, the engine was replaced in 84 with a Westerbeke 24 hp and the tank might also have been replaced, I dont know. My holding tank is a flexible tank on the bulk head wall of the lazerette (it is on the opposite wall of the head). This, I'm sure, is not standard, the size is about 20 gal. but I'm not sure.

Bladder was original

My 1981 H33 had a bladder style holding tank that held about 10 to 15 gallons (I think). It was starting to stink like crazy, so I replaced it with a solid plastic tank bought at West marine. I first measured the opening to the storage area under the starboard cockpit seat. I then looked to see what was available, and made a cardboard mock-up to check for fit. It has been a couple years, but I think it was a 15 gallon tank. I installed it in the same area as the bladder, but secured to the flooring with straps. The only problem now is that it severly restricts my getting into that area to work on the stuffing box, of accessing the transmission. What I do then is to loosen the starps with the tank empty, and slide it over as far as possible to give me room. There was a post some time ago where somebody installed a similar tank suspended in the area behind the hot water heater. You might look in the HOW archives. Good luck. Ken Palmer, S/V Liberty

H33 Stock holding tank retrofit

Check the photo forum with the search term holding tank for an article I wrote recently on retrofitting a stock holding tank in my H33. The plumbing, including the tank is quite out of the way and actually uses space from the cockpit locker not normally used anyway. Of course, the obverse of this is that you have to be a contortionist or a midget to easily install it. It continues to work fine
