I'm going to re-do my cabin sole this spring. Has anyone out there ever removed the sole completely and removed it from the boat? Are there a lot of fasteners? I would like to do this to give a good cleaning underneath. I do have some diesel odor and this could be part of the source. (another posting already) Will I be opening a can of worms? Should I refinish "in place"? Should I worry about re-fastening especially in the same holes?

On ours......

On our 33.5 (1988) the sole simply lifts out. There are not fasteners. to remove the section under the dining area we had to remove a bench or two. Note: after sanding lightly with 100-150 grit, use starbrite teak cleaner and starbrite teak brightener (dont try to sand away all the gray or discoloration...you take to much wood off and add to your work). After that process....sand with 250 and then apply a good teak oil. Let it sit and absorb for awhile (use a foam brush) and then buff it lightly. Should last a long time. This is what we did and they look new. Doug

I took my 29.5 sole out with about 15 screws. Sanded with 200 grit sandpaper and varnished with capts varnish. Took longer to dry than to take it up and move it tothe dock and sand. Looked good.

cabin sole

I removed my sole on my H33. There was a silicon type glue holding the sole down and teak plugs .There is three sections to the floor and it took a while to remove it.The silicon glue has to be lifted from the fiberglass sole and new glue applied. It took me about 3 hours to remove the old glue with a hand scraper. Good Luck!
