I'm in the market for a new Mainsail for my 1979 H33. I've gotten some quotes, and they range from $1700 - $2600. It seems that most want to offer a cross cut design, 7.62 daycron, with two reefing points, and conventional battons 2 full at top, and 2 mid way at the bottom. Of course they come with sailbag, ties, tale tells, and insignia. Is there anything else I should look for when buying a Main sail?

That's what I Got...

...for about the mid-range price from Quantuum 2 years ago but my 2 full battens are on the bottom with the 2 shorter ones on the top and heavy-duty material.

Art, I hope I'm not being too commercial, but

You should quote it here; looks like we'd be your lowest quote. If you're using it for cruising, I think the specs you've named are right on. ph.

TRY JSI

I DID ALOT OF SHOPPING FOR MY NEW JIB FOR MY 37 CUTTER AND ALMOST WENT WITH ROLLY TASKER. AFTER THE ST PETE BOAT SHOW I WENT TO JSI TO PICK UP MY NEW HARKEN ROLLER FURLER AND GOT THE BEST ( I FEEL) DEAL. I SPOKE TO BILL (ONE OF THE OWNERS) AND IN THE END HE GOT ME THE BEST PRICE... HAVEN'T SEEN THE SAIL YET (HAVENT SENT HIM THE MEASUREMENTS) BUT HE HINTED THAT MOST OF THE SMALLER TO MID SIZE LOFTS SEND ALL THERE PRODUCTION BOAT DESIGNS TO AISA (CHINA) TO BE BUILT. THE LOCAL GUYS DO MAKE SOME BUT THAT IS ONLY FOR SOME OF THE SPECIAL AND SMALLER RACE TYPE BOATS... HE ALSO INFORMED ME AS DID MOST OF THE OTHER LOFTS THAT AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR THERE PRICES WILL BE GOING UP.... OIL=DACRON AND THE DOLLAR AIN'T WORTH SHI*... ANYWAY GIVE BILL A CALL ANT TELL HIM CHET SENT YOU JIMO

Quantrum

I can't begin to tell you how pleased I've been with my Quantum 2 plus 2 mainsail. The price, which I dont remember exactly now from several years ago was comfortably in the mid range. They told me the main work is done in South Africa and finishing worh here. But that was then. Now; who knows? The sail is great.. Beefy gussets, solid batten retainers, excelent detail work. there are even strap handles at the reef points so there is something solid to grab onto if you insist on hand reefing in stead of line reefing from the cockpit. Do yourself a favor and talk to Quantum before you decide.

Sail Warehouse

I will go ahead and plug the Sail Warehouse... just got a genoa from them and couldn't be happier with it. They have more limited options than many manufacturers but seem to have some mains in stock that meet your requirements, and in compensation they are less expensive than any of the other bids you've received so far.
