I am buying a cruising spinnaker for my 2011 H33. Asock is running about $375, and a spinnaker furler about $800. Has anyone set up a retractable sprit on an 03-11 H33? My bow roller has a partial ring welded on it. Is that for a sprit?

I have a 2006 H33. I've not used a retractable sprit, but my asym spinnaker is attached to an extended bow roller, going forward about 1 foot further that normal.

Even so, however, since the mainsail is so far forward, it badly shelters my asym from the wind, making the asym not very effective at all (to my great disappointment). So a sprit could be VERY useful here. I'm really looking forward to other H33 owners comments/experiences to your post!

Another issue BTW is that the asym halyard does not come from the top of the mast, so the size of the asym is much reduced.

Because of these two issues, the performance improvement of my H33 with asym is, frankly, disappointing to me. (Love the boat otherwise, though).

I connect the tack block to the elongated hole in the anchor roller frame just ahead of the jib furling. It is true that the main sail blocks the asym so when running I fly it alone. I have a North asym which is wider than normal to offset the material that is lost due to the fractional rig. The performance, even without the main is pretty good. When I get a chance I will try pulling the main out a little at a time to see if it will run with some main. I am not sure how much advantage a sprit will be because the main sail blocks the wind entering the top of the asym causing the sail to roll inward.

We reef our main to allow more wind to reach the assym which works great on our mast head 28.5.

Should have added that we rigged up a bow sprit about a foot long which really helps our gybes and we are allowed a foot without affecting our rating.
