I get the Sail magazine, Cruising World and always look there for write-ups on older boats, which I find very intersting: modificatopns, etc
But I look for what was once written on our boats: does anyone remember ever seeing such articles?
Or, for that matter, anywhere else?
Time is so short (?) and I will probably never tackle such tasks, but dreaming is free; in the next few weeks my son and his friends are coming to instal a radio, convert ice box to refrigeration (using a small donor dormitory fridge, like my neighbour with similar boad did, works great and was cheap)a table attached to the binacle, a new water pump (the old one works, but starts and stops when water off: I once posted something here, but could not find any leak, maybe it's faulty)and start painting the non-skid areas
and of course a few toe rail bolts.
I digress, back to the early part of this entry: any one remembers?

If you can find a copy of "Good Old Boat", March 2001, there is a Cherubini article. I would like to have a copy. Here is info from their articles list:
What about those good old Cherubini Hunters?

" a new water pump (the old one works, but starts and stops when water off: I once posted something here, but could not find any leak, maybe it's faulty)" I think it's supposed to work that way. Once your up to pressure the pump shuts off. Just my tcw.

No, there is definitely something wrong: the pump goes on when the fawcet is on, but when I switch off the fawcet, the pump goes on and off, on and off all the time
It is not supposed to come on again until you open the tap again

You have a leak or the pump pressure diaphragm is going south. Or your water tank is nearing empty.

How on earth can I check the leak? Will leave it on and go all over the hose, maybe I can trace it
The tank is full, so that is not the problem
Or it could be the diaphram, as you suggest.
But I bought a new one for a very good price, time to update!
Thanks for helping!

Jorge, another explanation for stop and start of the pump can be air in one of the lines or hot water heater. Air is compressible and when the water comes to an abrupt stop when the faucet is closed it can cause a spike in pressure compressing the air. After a few seconds the pressure equalizes and the pump comes back on till the pressure is uniform in the system. If there are multiple air bubbles in the system usually at high points this can go on a few seconds or even minutes.

This happens even with household wells that don't have a properly designed expansion and pressure tank in the system. Not great for the pump I suspect but almost impossible to completely eliminate as there are no real bleed valves in the system.

Forgot to add absolutely no air also has the same effect as at that point the shock wave of the valve closing hits the pump switch directly. Wonder if anyone has ever put a pressure tank into a system on a boat. Would help with this problem.

Easy fix. take a short hose with a valve on the end. connect the other end to the output side of the pump. turning the valve on and off should start and stop your pump. if this works its your sink facet.. Just did this on mine..
of course no leaks on the output hose connections...
