h33.5 Prop

Our '88 h33.5 has the (what I believe to be) standard two blade prop. I know there is a sacrafice in the way of added drag but do those who have added a 3 blade think the extra balance (lower vibes), extra stopping/pulling power is worth it. And please don't tell me to add a $7000.00 feathering prop. Also,what do you 2GM Yanmar in a 33.5 users consider the top rmp range? The book is real sketchy regarding top cruising rpm.Thanks.

I agree with you that spending $$$ to get 1/10 knot extra speed for cruising doesn't make sense. (racing yes, cruising no.) I still have the original 2-blade on my 33.5 and I have experienced no problems backing down and can motor at 6 kn @ 2800 rpm. If I get dead into a wind and chop it will knock me back to 4.5 kn but I think that's to be expected. Check www.torresen.com site for Yanmar prop specs--I think they reccomend 14/2 for 3-blade for 2GM20 but don't take my word. You should check their site anyway its my 2nd favorite after HOW.
