Has anyone seen this before?

The only thing I can think of is the freezing of water that is trapped in the stanchion. When I took them off Saturday they were full!

Any other ideas how this happened?

Regards, Mike

I have new stanchions on order with the SBO store. Great folks, good prices and easy to deal with....

Have you taken them off to see it the tubing has a organic plug? If the tube is sealed at
the bottom by design, I would drill a small drain hole in each to let the water drain.

Hi Mark,
no there was no drain in the bottom of the stanchions. I took two off three weekends ago and they were full of ice. The only thing I can think of is that over time the water trapped in the stanchions froze and pushed the lifelines up through the metal tubing
