H31 speed control cable

Does anyone here have experience replacing the speed control cable in a Yacht Specialties pedestal? I am having a hard time locating where it should be anchored. the shift and speed rotate opposites the 'leg' shown in the diagrams for the speed cable is not there. My entire cable moves instead of just the wire.
I am hoping for a bit of advice before diving in further as it looks like I will have to drill out the control head screws to remove it for better access.

Some only had the lower clip at the top of the tube to hold the throttle cable, and not the arm.. Part #2 on page 46 is the clip. The previous page talks about access and mounting.

Remove it and take it with you to the Marine supply store (chandlery) and get another one just like it. That is what I did. I am lucky to have a good chandlery near me. If you don't then they have them for sale on Hunterowners.

The problem there is that it does not seem to be the correct cable. I can get the right cable, it is the attachment point that I cannot see without dismantling the pedestal. I don't want to start that until I better understand the problem if possible.
