Phil: After yet another week-long cruise picking anchorages not for their beauty but for how close they were to ice, I've decided (finally#$#@) to install refrigeration in my Hunter 31 ('85), probably this fall. Do you have any info on some of the "new" super insullation panels I've read about? I haven't figured out exactly how much insullation is currently surrounding my ice box, but if I can squeeze in a bit more w/out sacrificing too much space, I'm willing to do so. Any primers on refrigeration I can read? What is your recommendation on the type/size system I should get? I want to get a lot smarter on the subject before I ask a whole bunch more questions! Thanks. Tim

To measure Thickness

To measure thickness of insulation I used an ice pick. For access try to find a panel to remove. The conductors from the batteries to the main panel will probably have to be increased, and recommend large conductors to the refrigeration unit, marine grade tined wire. Try to size everything for 3% voltage drop and bost size if it runs through the heated engine space. If it saves wire run, consider a straight run, with breaker and switch, to the battery compartment.
