Had to rebuild the cabinets and face panel in the galley. Now it's time to install and for the life of me, I can't see how Hunter got it all in there in one piece. The cabinet screws into the back of the face panel, therefore, it had to be in one piece when originally installed. There is no way to install it from inside the cabin, nor will it go in from the lazerette. The only way I can imagine Hunter did it was to have the cabinet and countertop installed prior to the cabintop/roof set in place. I guess I'll have to screw thru the face panel into the cabinet, and then hide the screw heads with teak plugs. Now that I think about it, it seem that I've seen pictures of boat manufacturing plants with the woodworking installed before the top is set in place. Anybody else done this?

galley rebuild

when they build the galley there is no deck structure to get in the way.

We took our galley out in sections

We have a 79 H30 and removed our galley in sections. The counter top came off first by unscrewing from inside the cabinet. Then the faceframe came off, again by unscrewing from the inside. Only one section was tabbed to the hull and we used a sawsall to cut through the fiberglass. There wasn't really a back or bottom other than the hull. There was a lot of waisted space and three tiny drawers. I'm going to change the layout and we are planning on posting in the photo forum soon. It's been a long, long refit but we are determined to get it done and the boat back in the water next year as the Captain just bought a mooring.

Did it.....

And didn't have to use any teak plugs. Once rebuilt, I set the cabinet in place resting on rubber bumpers to keep it from wicking up water from countertop. I screwed the back of the cabinet directly to fbglass liner, and bottom to countertop....very rigid. Then positioned the face panel and was able to access two sides of cabinet from the lazerette and got screws thru cabinet into panel. Not easy though, you must be pretty limber to do this from lazerette. Then installed starboard shelves back, which press hard against the face panel to secure it even more. Looks so good compared to before. I carpeted inside the cabinet and this turned out to be a nice touch. I'll document the archives with pics later for next poor soul who attempt this.

I did mine,

well, the whole boat actually. What helps more than anything on a job like this is to avoid the mindset of doing it like the factory did. Usually that method only has one virtue; CHEAP! It's your boat. Do what works for you and forget that production-line thinking.
