I have a 81 H30, and I am planning on upgradng the traveller, and the mainsheet. I will be installing new hardware, and I was wondering if anyone knew if the mounting pints on the cabin top were cored, or are they solid fiberglass? Also, I tapped around from inside and it seems like the mounting areas are solid to the inner liner. Is this the case?

Should not matter.

Core material should not matter because I think you want to bolt it all the way through. You will have to deal with nuts and a backing plate on the inside but that seems preferable to having the traveler take flight in a blow. To answer your question I believe that plywood was used in place of the balsa where things are screwed down.

H30's

I removed and rebed my traveler, yes the cabintop is cored with plywood and a glass layer on the bottom plus the glass inner liner of the cabin. Pat McCartin

Thanks!

Thanks for your responses! I will try the through bolt method. Hopefully there isn't much of a gap between the harpoints and the liner in the cabin. Thanks again!

Air gaps.

Fred, let us know what you find. I know some have found a space between the inner liner and the bottom of the coring. So they cut a nice hole and put the backing plate against the coring. Then they were able to fashion a nice cover for the hole. It would be "prettier" than a big aluminum backing plate or large stainless fender washers. I guess you could do what I see in my H37C cabin. The cabin trunk winch is through-bolted. Then there is a round 3/4" teak plate over the bolts.
