H31 autopilot fluxgate compass location?

Does anyone have suggestions as to the best locationfor my autohelm st4000 fluxgate compass? The boat is a 1986 H31.Thank's, Steve

Compass location on H31

Mine is mounted to the holding tank under the forward V-berth. It was there when I purchased the boat but seems to work well.

If it's new...

just return it and get a Simrad WP10CX or WP30CX. Much better unit and easier to install. They can be had for about $760 with the remote.

Compass

Hi, I mounted mine behind the seat cushion next to the post under the mast, you dont see it, but it is available if service is needed. And as close to centerline as possible, and away from steel objects.

Mount under the drivers seat.

I mounted my fluxgate compass right under where I sit when I'm at the helm. It's easy to get at, and it's right on the boats center line. The only problem is don't put metal to near it, I did once, now I just make sure I don't let any big cans or anchors near it. It works great.
