Sitting in the cockpit, kahlua coffee in hand waiting for the dew to dry so I could add another coat of teak oil. Bilge pump kicks on and I investigate. Yep, water in the bilge (not real unusual...) and I end up on my belly peering aft under the 2GM Yanmar. Counting drops, I see the stuffing box dripping at about 1 drop every .72835 seconds (roughly).

Owners manual says adjust to about 1 drop every 15 seconds......

Is that based on a (A) cold engine, shaft not turning....or....a (B) warm engine with shaft turning?

How does the drip rate typically vary comparing (A) to (B)? More or less?

I tightened down on the nut and now have a zero drip rate on a cold, static engine. Idle forward and reverse in the slip is also a zero drip rate...I'll loosen it some before I got out but.....1 drop every 15 seconds (A) cold and off or (B) warm and running?

Teak looks good but it's too warm for coffee; time for a beer ;-)

I have same problem but can't reach to adjust on my 84 H27. Thinking about drip less system, but it's a learning 3-5 year boat. Not to hijack post but anyone go that route? Worth the money?
