Couldn't help noticing while working on the raw water pump that the engine compartment insulation was way overdue remove/replace. Any tips?

Best brands of insulation? Best supplier? Best method of attaching - mechanical fastener, adhesive, seam tape...all the above?

Thanks

Thanks for the link - it's got all the info I need. What brand/model fuel filter and water strainer do you have? Are you pleased with them both? I also need to upgrade/add those items. Thanks
Malyea,

The primary fuel filter is the Racor spin-on 120 series with a metal bowl. Would have preferred the clear bowl, but the U.S. Coast Guard requires metal if it's in the engine compartment or any high temperature area. Having it up front where I don't have to reach over the engine is a huge improvement and the spin-on elements are easy to change.

The raw water filter is a SHURflo and I changed the straight hose barb fittings that came with it to 90 degree fittings, also from SHURflo, in order to fit it up front without sharp hose bends. It's mounted well above the at rest waterline for safety. Last summer was the first season the engine has had any more protection than the slotted scoop cover on the outside of the thru-hull. I've never had an issue with debris getting in, but the added protection can't hurt. It seems well made. Being nylon rather than bronze, it may not last as long, but it was way less expensive, and I didn't find any regulations or recommendations against using it in the engine compartment.

You were luckier than me. I was out on the water when all of a sudden I heard this GOD awful racket coming from the engine compart. I immediately shut down the engine and removed the stairs and found that the large piece of insulation mounted underneath the stairs had fallen onto the belt and pulley and needless to say I have quite a mess to clean up. An insulation condition will be added to my periodic checklist.
