The Raytheon auotopilot on my 1983 H30 trips the breaker after shutting down the engine! Help! Anyone know why this might be happening?

Mike

what makes you think that its not the engine?

Sounds like there could be a short or something in the engine kill solenoid. Do you have a push/pull engine kill or switch kill?

I have a yanmar GM2 with a "pull" to kill switch. Unit works great while engine is running!

Hi Skip, is there anything else connected to...

this breaker? Our boat has other stuff connected. Connect a volt meter to the hot side of your AP and monitor the shut down cycle to determine if a voltage spike is coming from some source that causes the breaker to trip. Is this a new symptom, or have you done some things to the boat that might be causing this? Terry

Move the connection to another breaker.

Skip: This does not make a lot of sense. There is no electrical connection the shut down on the engine unless it has been modified. I would suggest that you move the connection from one breaker to another to see if the problem still occurs. What breaker is the autopilot attached to?
