I have the original engine in my H30. Does the yanmar have the ability to install a rpm gauge and a temp gauge?

Also the the last owner installed a 3 way key and the only way to turn off the motor is to have it stall out. Thee is no kill switch Does anyone have any fixes for that?

Were my key, depth gauge and wind speed indicator are installed under the cock pit step, the depth gauge has been ripped out and there is a big hole.
Does anyone have any ideas for a fix or upgrade for that panel?

And last but not least can anyone tell me what the Gelcoat color/ code would be for that egg shell white on the hull?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you can add gauges to your Yanmar. You probably already have the water temp sensor. It is/was wired to an idiot light and can go to a gauge. Many owners wire it to both. An aftermarket tachometer should be one that connects to the alternator instead of the flywheel. Much easier to install and the flywheel magnet might not be there. Lots of gauge issues were recently discussed. Check "Search".

There is no "kill switch" exactly on a diesel. It is stopped by shutting off the fuel. My 2QM20 in my '79 used the throttle. All the way back shutoff the engine. Not a good feature when docking. Most boats have a separate fuel shutoff somewhere close to the helm. Just a handle on a cable that you pull out to stop fuel flow. My new engine has an electric solenoid, a push button near the key, that shuts off fuel.

This PDF manual has the H30 plumbing and wiring diagrams:

I have a 78 H30 with the yanmar ysb12, my engine panel is in the cockpit port side. The throttle is the engine shutoff. A po installed a tach with hour meter but I am not sure where it gets the signal from. The temp is an idiot light on the panel that only lights when the sender grounds, which only happens when the engine is hot. I installed a screamer into the circut so if it overheats I can hear it as well as the light comes on.
You should never turn the key off with the engine running, it will kill the power to the alt and damage it. As far as the holes are concerned maybe make a new panel from teak or starboard material. I have no idea about the gelcoat color, mine had so many holes from a dodger and other things that had been installed on the deck that I filled the holes and repainted the deck and cabin top.

The '77 was pretty unique I think. Doesn't the '78 have a 'T-shaped' cockpit like my H37C? And I think the '77 seating went around in a 'U' shape. I think a picture of the instruments and holes would be helpful. Sounds like it is on the front of the bridgedeck like mine(photo).

Most if not all older Yanmar engines installed on Cherubini's do not have "engine stop controls". Adding one looks to be a fairly easy task if you want to go through the trouble. I have toyed with doing it. But it is on the bottom of the ever growing list of things to do. Here is a diagram of a remote stop control.

My 79 h30 came new with an engine kill switch located aft of the wheel on the rear helm seat bulkhead. Replacements are available from the Yanmar distributors.
