I recently bought a 1992 Hunter 28' and when I had the mast unstepped I noticed something that looked strange when I removed the cover at the top of the compression post inside the cabin, it appeared like the compresson post was in two parts or was cut. Is this the way it is supposed to be?

We had a 1989 H28 and I do not ...

remember a split in the post. There was a plate welded at the top that was bolted to the coach roof. Terry

compression post

I have a 91' H28, and the top of the post appears to be seperate from the long bottom. I hope this helps.

Split Compression Post

It sounds like our compression posts are the same. I'm not sure why Hunter would have designed it that way. I wonder if it makes it so it will fit between the roof and the sole? It just seems like it would be a weak point as compared to a solid post. Anyone else have any input about their H28 or other models that have cabin stepped masts?
