Does anyone happen to know how thick the wall is by the door to the head (the wall facing the companion way)? I forgot to measure when I was at the boat so I might have a 2.5 hour round trip just for some screws for my new hatchboard holders.

last year I added a speaker in the wall right at the companionway which required me to cut it into the wall. I'm almost positive that it was 1/2" but I can check it when I get home tonight. 5/8" would be beastly and 3/8" would just be too thin so my money'd be on 1/2".

Bulkhead thickness

Are you talking about this bulkhead? I don't recall it being as thick as 1/2", but as you can see my U bolts are threaded and have nuts/washers on both sides so the thickness was not something I paid much attention to.

I thought 3/8 was a bit thin. 13mm in our old english measurement weirdness is 1/2". All that said I'd bolt those onto the wall with nuts and washers instead of merely using wood screws in material so thin.
Just a thought, Mike

I needed the thickness because the screws will go through the wall. The wall is too thin to hold the weight of the hatch boards and they would pull right out.

I intended to replace my simple nylon strap hatch board holder with a nice oak HB restraining bracket bolted/screwed on the wall of the head during my off season but haven't gotten to it. The weight of the boards would rest in the base section on the floor. See pic below of a really nice mod done by a member on this board. I think he'd mentioned that he wished he'd have left a little more room to slide them in/out.

Good luck with the HB bracket. Post a pic when you're done.
Mike
