H260 sails?

Does anyone have a genoa on their 260? Is it a 135% or 150%? How does it work for you? I'm looking at purchasing one for mine.

NO Genoas Usually

The general recommendation for the Hunter 26/260 is NOT to use a genoa sail since the jib sheets would have to be adjusted and equipment added. While I'm sure some have done this, most who want extra power in light winds opt for a crusing spinnaker which is easy to fly - especially if you have a furling jib. I'm sure someone had done this and can tell you how it works. The archives on this site probably have had some discussion on this issue. Good Luck.

Main driven

The H26 (260) is a main driven boat. Check how tall the mast is compared to other boats the same size.I agree with the above post, see about a cruising spinnaker if you want more sail out there. Would suggest looking carefully the angle of usage the spinnaker can handle (generally not straight down wind).My experience with this boat is that it all ready out performs other boats downwind.

Cruising Spinnaker is the best choice

I agree that the cruising spinnaker is the best choice for this mainsail driven boat. We've owned boats from 14' - 31 ' and crewed on bigger ones. The cruising spinnakers are ideal for 2 handed sailing and just general ease of use. Besides they are pretttier than a genoa! On a boat this large try a dousing sock - it is a great help. Our 260 tends to heel alot. something to get used to.

Got rid of genoa!

I purchased a used H26 last year. It came with a 130% Genoa. It was obvious from the start that the sail overpowered the boat, and caused tremendous weather-helm. The previous owner was using a stansion post support as the lead block for ghe Genoa. Talk about makeshift! We ended up replacing the Genoa with the boat's unused original jib. Performance improved greatly. Don't mess with a Genoa on this boat!Don BarberS/V Third Degree
