Has anyone replaced the line that hauls the rudder up and down on your H260? Uncle Crazy Dave specified 3/8 line but we didn't talk about the length. And he seems to be out-of-town for awhile. So, how much line did you use?

Thanks!

CRAZY DAVE is going to spend the next couple of nights at my HOUSE.

Kermit, can't remember the length. I just check the manual and they don't specify. so 3/8" 8ft would be a good start. Know the line isn't very long.

good luck

And may the powers that be, have mercy on me for the next couple of days. Taking Crazy to the Annapolis US Boat Show....HELPPPPPPPPPP

If your going to change the line . Put the extra 2 mini harken pulleys on and new line. I also added the pop up cleat. You can find the mod under H260 mods. It's well worth it. No more leaning over the back to push the rudder down.

I found the mod. Thanks for the suggestion. Since Jim Seamans has dibs on Crazy Dave for a while I'll have to wait. Sharing never came easy for me. I mean, he's MY friend more than Jim's!

I replaced mine this season. I buy enough line for multiple projects, so I never worry about exact length. I just cut it off to length after the line is installed.

There are multiple lengths involved with the rudder. Two lines for the downhaul with a block in the rudder tube, and two lines for the uphaul if you also have the block there as shown in the owner's manual.

Well crazy dave is back and survived with Jimbo Seamons . What Kermit the from did not say, both of us called him and started croaking like frogs on his voice mail. Now that was a hoot.

Sorry all, I misread the subject header and responded with sizes for the CENTERBOARD uphaul line instead of the RUDDER UPHAUL LINE. Since I couldn't delete the post, I am overwriting my comment. Sorry again! BrianW

So my '98 240 has no blocks on the rudder up/downhaul, and it is a pain to lower the rudder. Guess they added those in later years. Will the the 4:1 purchase upgrade work on the 240 just like the 260? Looks like those Harken micro blocks use 1/4" line max.

Caverun;

Good morning young man. The boat left with a turning block with becket in the rudder post housing to give you a four to one system inside. Any other larger block will not work. Not sure about others promoting the smaller blocks with a smaller line to the rudder head using the 3/8. However the boat left with such a system as standard.
