Has anybody connected the controls (fast/slow/reverse) from the pedestal to their outboard. If so, what was involved and how difficult was it to get working. Any info/thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Apologies to anybody reading this again as I also put it under 'General Interest'

I looked into installing the Edson type controls but have never liked this arrangement because you have to reach over or through the wheel to adjust one or both of the levers. Also, the cost put me off. As an alternative, some of us have installed a single lever arrangement that is simpler to install and much cheaper. Location of the throttle lever varies, but I prefer either on the stbd side rail or the stern rail. See the pics on the photo forum. http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/pix.tpl?folder=73225972105&sku=110005937813486952&fno=17

Remote Controls

Tom, I haven't finished mine yet, but I'm planning to connect the controls. I bought my 2005 Hunter 260 with the Edson controls in place, and I'm buying a Honda 9.9 for it. The engine hasn't come in yet. Once they're hooked up, I'll let you know. Seems like a great way to go. I have an older Honda installed now without remote controls and it is tricky docking while having to control the motor by leaning over to adjust the throttle manually. What engine are you installing on your 260?

I did

It's not really that hard. As I recall the most difficult part was getting the cables to turn the 90 degrees below the pedistal. My trick was to do it at night with a light below the pedistal to illuminate, then fish the cables up. There is a funny little nylon nut that goes thought the front on the pedistal shaft. It anchors the cables housings. Also, leave the wheel brake installation until last. No problem getting to the controls around the wheel and real nice to use. Kevin
