Yesterday, I received, in the mail, from Hunter Marine a brief letter, 2 pages of a diaghramed instructions, 4 bolts, 4 nuts and 8 washers. The letter stated there has been a problem with deck to hull separations... And I should drill 4 holes and install the bolts, 2 in the bow and two in the stern, to help prevent the separation from occuring. I have a 2002 H260, and they want me to drill holes in her? And why only 4 bolts? With a 3 foot chop on the water, the boat can take a heck of a beating. Why not install a bolt every foot along the sides of the deck. I could install a metal toe rail. If there's anything that makes me nervous, it's this kind of stuff. Is everyone getting these instructions, or just the 2002's?

Contact Dealer

You boat must be under warranty so I would contact your dealer to have the modifications made. Othewise, I would contact HUnter and tell them to fix your boat ASAP and gratis. By the way, I read a thread on the CWBB where there was a tale about a bow separating from the hull on a 260. Maybe it wasn't a tale after all. Good luck getting your boat fixed.

Is it just the 260 or has any one heard of any other models having this problem.

me too!

Yesterday, I too recieved the recall kit for my 2000 H260. It had the same bolts and 5200 sealant. Hunter said they would pay up to $50 for a dealer to repair it, if necessary. It is a very simple fix, but I too am concerned now that the rabbit is out of the hat. It looks like it might be a issue for all H260's, although I have never had a leakage or separation problem. I await any dealer responses.

Talked to Greg

I was talking to Greg at Hunter about other things and asked him about these bolts. Story relayed to me was that, deck separations were the cause of accidents. Like running into a bridge with the mast up and peeling up the deck on the bow!! Engineering looked at it and decided to alleviate a possible problem than to wait around for it to occur. These must be stress points that could cause a problem. No one has hurt the boat from over stressing the stays. Jim $.02 S/V Java

APRIL FOOLS JOKE???

I too recieved a packet of bolts, nuts and sealant from Hunter Marine for my 2000 260!!! I thought at first this must be an April Fools joke!!! However now I share your concerns. Logic would dictate that if the 260 is prone to the dect ripping away that it would take more than four punny bolts to hold it together. Why wouldn't Hunter share more indepth information about this problem? I am sure in the next few days we will be hearing horror stories of decks pealing away from hulls causing death and distruction!!!!!!! Hunter Marine tell us the truth we can handle it! Fair winds good sailing and don't forget to tighten up the bolts!!!!

Have Hunter demonstrate smacking a bridge

with the mast and demonstrate how your 4 bolts will hold up. Must be some very good glue. Ray S/V Speedy

Everything is fine....

Today, I talked with Greg at Hunter and got an email from my dealer. The problem was occuring when the mast stopped and the boat keep going. One instance was a boat going under a bridge and the mast hit the bridge. Those problems, I can undertand. That's not normal boat wear and tear. I did install the bolts, but I'll watch for any low bridges.

ok, I did it Bridge vs Hunter

Ok, I for one can say that YES I hit a bridge the very first time I took my baby out, I had sailed under that same bridge a number of times in my other boat, both boats had a top of mast to water line of 40 ft well I guess that it was measured differently (new math vs old math) well the Hunter hit the bridge, or is it the bridge hit the Hunter? about 18 inches below the mast head. The mast came down very nicely with a loud crash, the mast broke in half right below the spreaders, I cried, ranted and cried some more.Afetr getting it home I called up my insurance agent and gave them the bad news. The boat is now with crazy Dave getting repaired, the deck to hull seam is cracked both port and starboard, I got the kit yesterday Baums Rush

Rub Rail not impacted

The bolts are mounted top to bottom through the flange that surrounds the deck/hull joint. Just as the shroud U bolts are attached. Fair winds, Tom
