Two quick items: one problem, one question. Installed both batteries: launched and engine started fairly easily. Got to dock, 200 meters, and hooked up shore power; have ac to ac panel, battery charger works, no reverse polarity, current to 110V outlet. DC panel is DEAD. Based on the limited info provided in Hunter user manual, my next task is to find the fuse holder shown in the diagram. Any idea where it is? After that I will remove the panel again and see if there is any flow through the 'red' line in. Does it really matter which order you place the battery? I have the starting battery under the seat with the fuel tank and the house battery (deep cycle) below deck aft of the double berth. Thanks

Battery Selector Panel?

My batteries may not be in the same location (house batt is near the fresh water tank forward). Not sure if mine was factory or dealer installed, but I have a Blue Sea emergency battery crossover panel that also has the main breakers for both the starting and house battery circuits. There are two different breakers. The house breaker sends current to the DC panel. My Blue Sea panel is located near the cablin floor under the settee on the starboard side. Hope this helps.

Not same set-up

The starting battery is in front of the fuel tank and under the rigging for the wheel steering. The house battery in almost under the starting battery but inside the hull in the stbd side storage space aft of the bunk. Probably factory installed. Thanks for the thought.

Ya it matters

But only if the house battery cannot crank your engine. The starting battery has to be close to the engine because when it cranks, it takes a lot of current. Wire length needs to be kept to a minimum to prevent voltage drop. So, keep your starting battery close to the engine and attach it with the heavier gauge wires.

Large in-line fuse....

.....is in the aft bunk, stbd side batt location on our 2004 260. It would take a major short to blow that fuse and I'd focus on why it blew before I'd just pop a new one in, otherwise your sign-in "fireball" may be too close for comfort. It could be as simple as a loose or corroded contact on the batt or cable, or a bad/loose ground on the lug that simply lays inside the liner directly behind the 12v sw/breaker panel. Is the house batt fully charged? Is there a selector sw on your batts? Is it fully rotated into place or in great shape? Thats a really snug spot under the seat and steering cables(assuming it's a wheel steering) be careful of stowed items contacting those batt lugs(hopefully it's in a well secured batt box). Good luck and be especially safe when having elec issues on-board. All smoke det and fire ext up to date too? Have a safe and enjoyable season. Michael

lines

two battery system with a seperate AC system. On the AC system, a line should be led from the panel to the battery charger. Then there are seperate lines generally red to each of the positive terminal of each battery from the battery charger. As for the black or ground wire, only one needs to go to a negative terminal as the negative terminals are generally tied together. There is no other connection between the AC and DC except for the above. You do not have reverse polarity and all that works. When you installed the second battery, I will assume that you also installed a battery selector. That being the case, you have one cable on the #1 terminal or battery 1 to one battery and the other cable from terminal 2/battery 2 going to the second battery. These are the thick red cables at least #6 size. I usually then run two cables from the common with one going to the motor and the other going to the DC panel. As suggested, I would check to make sure the wires are secured. If you blew the big fuse, usually that was in line on the red cable comeing off the battery box installed at Hunter usuall seen in the upper left when you opened that door in the rear berth accessing the battery compartment. I was not sure if you installed a battery charger. If you are not an electricaian and do not know what you are doing, hire an electrician. The new code for the ground wire on the DC side in marine is yellow replacing black.
