I am thinking of extending the headroom height of my H260. I saw one article in the Photo Forum on this extension. The photos are hard to see and I am not sure how the work was done. Has anyone else tried to do this? I would like to add a traveler (on risers) over this new extension. Has anyone added a traveler over their cabin top? Thanks Austin Simplicity

I sent e-mail to photo post author...

...requesting they re-post or e-mail the pic's to me. If they do the latter I'll try to re-post to photo forum. I'm interested in that idea too. I've also wondered if an arch similar to the ones Hunter puts on its larger boats could be retrofitted to an H26. It would probably be pretty expensive, and put stress on the deck at points it wasn't designed to resist. It would be good if it worked; you could mount the traveler on the arch, and have a bimini and a dodger that connect in bad weather.

Bigger Photos?

Can those pics be enlarged? They are so small that you can't see the detail of how everything fits together! Harken makes a retrofit traveler riser unit ($450!), plus track and cars. Ouch! And the riser only lifts the track 6 7/8". Any ideas?

Pictures

I want to make sure we're referring to the same post. I'm referring to "More Headroom" by Harry and Linda Plaganis (link below). When I try to view the pictures, the first two are just blocks of color with no discernable image. Only the third view is visible, the view from the bow. are you seeing something different, or looking at a different post?

Detailed pics would be great!

Yes, that's the one. However, the pics are very small. I can tell it is a H260, but can't see any detail on the construction of the additional 8" height (at least, not like the detail you can see on other pictures in the forum!). BTW, you are right, two of the photos are just streams of color. I thought someone else might have done a similar project and would post their pics on the website. I suppose someone could contact Harry Plaganis and ask him if he has any close up pics he could post. (If he posts the same pics there will not be any details on construction.) Thanks Austin

More thoughts

I Did e-mail Harry Plaganis through the owner's registry. No reply as yet. I'm still intrigued by this arch idea. There are a couple of posts in the archive about it. I wonder if the load imposed at the mainsheet attachment point is greater than or less than the load at a shroud. I read somewhere that the proper way to size a shroud is to make it capable of supporting the entire weight of the boat. Does this hold true for the chainplates as well? I notice that the chainplates on the H26 are simply bolted thru the hull/deck joint. If a 4-legged arch, similar to the ones on larger Hunters, was connected to the hull/deck joint (further aft of course) in similar fashion at 4 points on each side, maybe with a continuous backing plate, would that be enough to handle a traveler? Anybody?

How about asking Hunter what it would take...

to make an aftermarket arch for the 26/260. They would know what to beef up and where to mount it if possible. Why not? If there were some suggestions for its construction I could make a prototype. I think there would be a demand that would support someones efforts. I know I would buy one. Ray
