I just had a Boomkicker installed on my 260. I'm not sure that it is correctly installed as the main now has a very big belly and I think the boom is above parallel to the deck. My understanding was that once the Boomkicker is installed, you need make no other adjustments. Correct or no? It looks like I can correct some of the belly bulge by using the boom vang. But shouldn't the boomkicker be making those adjustments? Can any of you who have (and love) your boomkicker, please help me out. Thanks so much.

I think all it does is push the boom up. You need to use the vang to pull it down to the correct position when sailing.

Karen, Which brand did you buy. I have been thinking about getting one myself. You do need to adjust the vang/kicker to increase/decrease the belly in the main. The idea is that you do it with only one control where before you had to adjust the topping lift and the vang. By the way where are you docked at on Lake Norman?

Kicker works with vang
The Boom kicker provides, I believe, the force to raise the mast without a topping lift. The Vang is still needed to position the boom. In light air you can increase the belly of the sail for more drive; in heavier air, you'll want to tension the vang to reduce the depth of the draft of the sail. Fair winds, Tom
