H26 Trailer Winch?

The hand-cranked winch that came with my 10 year old H26 trailer finally gave out at the end of last summer. Has anyone replaced the factory trailer winch with an electric version. Can you power such a winch from the cigarette lighter type sockets that are now on most SUV's? What weight capacity does a new winch need to be? Supply catalogs suggest capacity of 50% of the total boat weight. Any thoughts on the replacement winch issue would be appreciated. Thanks!

Winch for boat

We had to replace ours for our h23 and we went back with a hand crank. I don't know much about the electric versons. We went with the one with the nylon webbing which stretches a little bit but seems better than the cable. I don't know what yours came with. We only haul ours a couple times a year and didn't think the electric one was worth it for us. Rob Morton

I have thought about electric, we have a 23 and I decided that I like the feel of the hand crank , by that I mean sometimes when loading somethings can go wrong or get caught , with the hand crank I can feel there is more resistance than there should be . At that point I stop cranking and start looking for the problem, not sure if an electric would be good for us. Maybe it would work ok for the 260 , When I was considering the electric I was going to rig something to use to also raise the mast using the winch, good luck /Mike Bacome
